Eddie Stafford

Eddie Stafford is an up-and-coming neuro diverse comedy director, writer and producer with a killer instinct for humour and a reputation for building trusted relationships with some of the biggest names in comedy (Johnny Vegas, Jon Richardson, Sally Phillips, Jack Dee).

He has worked in TV for almost 20 years and has spent the last five years Writing, Producing and Directing the multi award winning (BAFTA nominated, 2X Broadcast Award) situation comedy Meet the Richardsons(Dave, UKTV).  The sitcom followed married comedians Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont as they played heightened versions of themselves along with a mix of actors, non-actors and high-profile talent including David Tennant, Craig Charles and Rob Beckett.  Eddie was on the project since the pilot and has been responsible for script editing, casting, planning the production and running all departments during filming.

The series has been the highest rated programme on the channel.  Meet the Richardsons is also critically acclaimed with rave reviews in the Telegraph, Mail, Times, Metro and Independent.

Prior to Meet the Richardsons, Eddie Produced and Series Directed well known talent in a range of constructed comedy factual projects for Channel 4, ITV and BBC. (Johnny Vegas Glamping, Channel 4).  Even though these films played as documentary, they were planned as scripted comedy with intense collaboration prior to filming to work out where the comedy and heart was in each scene.

Eddie started his career in documentary, often with a focus on humour.  It was here that he started working with on screen talent and developed an instinct for getting comedic performances out of non-comedians, visual jokes, and blocking to maximise comic effect. His work on documentaries particularly films with unfolding narrative has also given him the confidence in his scripted work to go off script and explore improvisation.  

Eddie is a director with strong creative vision who has a track record in development, creating series storylines, pitching and selling. He loves to get involved right at the start of the creative process to help shape a series, work with writers and shoot pilots. Eddie’s true crime drama LONELY HEARTS which he’s Exec Producing in collaboration with Quay Street Productions has just been greenlit to series by ITV and his original TV series BONUS BALL which he’s cowriting with Lucy Beaumont is being developed by BBC and Fudge Park. Eddie also has original TV series STEALING A LIVING in development with Hat Trick.
