Kodie Bedford
Writer Kodie was born in regional Western Australia. Her mother is of Australian English heritage and her father is Indigenous Australian. Her best memories consist of her listening to her family recounting town legends, family feats and spilling the odd secret. It was solid training for storytelling and, after watching an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she decided that she wanted to be a screenwriter.
Kodie has worked as journalist for Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) and a documentary filmmaker for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Never forgetting her dream of wanting to be a screenwriter, Kodie made the jump to television drama in 2018 and hasn’t looked back. Her numerous credits include Territory (Netflix), Return to Paridise (ABC/BBC), Mystery Road (ABC/BBC4), Firebite (AMC+), RFDS (Channel 7 Australia) and All My Friends are Racist (ABC) which took out the 2021 AACTA award for best short form comedy. Kodie has also written for stage. Her play Cursed! debuted at Sydney’s Belvoir Theatre and won both best stage theatre and the major award at the 2021 Australian Writers’ Guild Awards. In 2023, Kodie was selected by the Australian Writers’ Guild to take part in the Showrunner Training program with Jeff Melvoin in Los Angeles. Kodie is currently developing her own slate of projects while living in London under a Global Talent Visa including two feature films (one horror and one romantic comedy) set in both the UK and Australia.
