Rowan Allen
Rowan (they/them) is a screenwriter, script editor and sound artist from Yorkshire. As a writer working across TV and film, they are especially drawn to genre fiction and how sexuality is presented on screen. They aim to push the boundaries of screen storytelling and champion onscreen intersectional inclusivity in meaningful ways, addressing issues of underrepresentation and challenging conventional narratives.
They are currently developing a BFI-backed short film with director Owen Tooth and have been commissioned to adapt the story NIGHTSTALKERS from Eliza Clark's 2024 collection SHE'S ALWAYS HUNGRY. In 2024 Rowan was selected for the inaugural Diverse Writers Development Programme with NFTS and Left Bank Pictures, where they developed commercial HETV projects alongside five other emerging writers. Their writing has been shortlisted for New Writing North’s Writing for TV Award, ITV’s Original Voices and BBC’s Writers, and they participated in FrightFest's 2023 New Blood scheme for upcoming horror writers.
