Tade Thompson
Tade, is an award-winning author and screenwriter best known for his critically acclaimed science fiction novel Rosewater, the first installment of the Arthur C. Clarke Award–winning Wormwood Trilogy. His other novels include the noir thriller Making Wolf, the space-set mystery Far From the Light of Heaven, and the cult-favourite Molly Southbourne novella series.
Tade's work has earned him numerous accolades, including the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Nommo Award, the Kitschies Golden Tentacle, and the Julia Verlanger Prize. He has also been shortlisted for the Hugo Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, the British Science Fiction Association Award, and the Shirley Jackson Award, among others.
In addition to his literary success, Tade is a prolific screenwriter. He is currently on retainer with DC Studios/Warner Bros TV, where he is adapting Rosewater and the Wormwood Trilogy for television with producer Peter Safran. He has also adapted DC comics The Savage Dragon and The Authority for Warner Bros TV.
In the UK, Tade has adapted his novel Making Wolf for Amazon and Big Talk Productions and developed his original series Bagman Babylon for Sky and Big Talk. Netflix is developing a TV series based on The Molly Southbourne novellas, with Edgar Wright as executive producer and Complete Fiction producing; Tade will contribute as a writer alongside lead writer Holly Ross.
Tade has also adapted the acclaimed Turkish crime drama Persona for BBC and House Productions and is currently working on an English-language reboot of the classic Space: 1999 for ITV Global and Monumental TV.
On the feature film side, he is writing the screen adaptation of Neil LaBute’s This Is How It Goes, with Idris Elba attached to direct for Archery Productions and Fifth Season. He has also written the historical action feature Bilal for MBC Studios and the original horror-thriller New Orleans Golem, with David Kosse producing and Misan Harriman set to direct.
Born in London to Yoruba parents, Tade is also a leading psychiatrist with the NHS. His work—ranging from slick, entertaining crime thrillers to darkly comic noir and big world building, boundary-pushing science fiction—is deeply infused with themes of identity, alienation, dislocation, and internal conflict.
